StoneAge Tool Maintenance
Our customers understand that maintaining the fluid level in our rotary swivels is the most important aspect of trouble-free operation. We have specialty maintenance tools available that allow you to quickly add or maintain the fluid in these self-rotary tools. An equally important part of the fluid system is making sure that the shaft seals are installed correctly and undamaged so the fluid does not leak out. The syringe, fill tube, and seal insertion tool are explained in the short video.
1. Filling or replacing the fluid using the syringe
In many of our rotary swivels, the oil is not only the bearing lubrication, but also the speed control. Periodically adding this fluid is a very easy way to extend the operating life of your tool, and we recommend that you perform this maintenance on a daily basis. Many tools like the Barracuda and Gopher require no disassembly to add the fluid. Simply screw in the syringe and squeeze. The objective is to flush out the used fluid and refill the cavity with fresh oil.
2. Using the Fill Tube
Many of our self-rotary pipe cleaning tools like the Raptor and BJV use a thick, viscous fluid for speed control. This pure silicon oil is the only fluid we’ve found that will effectively control the rotation speed. This proven means of controlling speed is dependent on the periodic addition of clean fluid to prevent the swivel from over-spinning. Try to keep the tool body filled with clean oil by displacing all of the air inside the body cavity. The “Fill Tube” allows you to quickly charge the swivel with the thick oil, and eliminates the wait time as the air bubbles up through the bearings.
3. Using the seal insertion tool
Many of our 612 Tool Kits include a special seal insertion tool that allows you to press in the shaft (lip) seal without damaging the lip that captures the fluid. It’s very important to install the shaft seals in the correct orientation or the tool may not function properly. These insertion tools are especially handy for some of the smaller seals that are found in tools like the Barracuda. Always refer to the tool manual in regards to seal orientation.
